Textiles Final Piece
I have chosen to create a wall hanging for my A2 Textiles project of 'Nostalgia'. In my sketchbook I have taken inspiration from both textile artists and fashion designers. My samples for my final piece incorporate both fashion and textile elements. My favourite sample so far is of my Mum's childhood, I have transferred images onto book paper, used molar technique and buttons as well as out folded fabric circles overlapping each other in the style of Valentino. The colour scheme is pink and neutrals, I wanted to make it feel girly and vintage in which I used lace and pink stripy paper.

Erdem
As I was looking on Pinterest for fashion designers I came across Erdem, I really love his SS13 collection. His collection uses a variety of patterns and colours with one of the dresses is a blue pastel colour with a bright orange pattern on top. I love how he has incorporated lace and flowers into his collections as it gives a vintage style. He has also put constrasting patterns together including floral and snakeskin which give the dresses a unique look and feel.
Fashion Magazines
Recently I have been collecting and reading fashion magazines including ones that target the mass market such as Vogue and Elle as well as more niche magazines including Love and Dazed and Confuesd. I first found the designer Valentino in Love magazine which showcased a black and white fashion shoot of some of his collections. I particularly liked both his SS12 and SS13 collections. His SS12 collection uses lots of lace and vintage patterned fabric whereas his SS13 colletion incorporates bolder colours such as red and the dresses are more detailed. I have used both of these collections as part of my A2 textiles project.

Lemon and thyme loaf cake
I made this loaf cake using a recipe from The Hummingbird Bakery cook book. I love the cupcakes from the bakery and got the book for a Christmas present. I decided to make something different for a change as the loaf cake has lemon thyme in which is unusual in a cake. The loaf tastes really tangy from them lemon aswell as sweet from all the sugar in the syrup and cake.

Nostalgia mood board
I love this mood board I have created, which I have put into my textiles project to show nostalgic fashion. I have used pictures, fabrics and trimmings that I collected at Somitex while on work experience. I have summmed nostalgia up as romance, lace and florals.

Paper Flowers
I learnt how to create these paper flowers on a tutorial on YouTube, I really love them because the use of book paper adds a vintage feel to any sample. They add a 3D element to my work in textiles and in a other sample of mine I have added watercolour to the petals to make them pink and look more realistic. I love the sample I created in which I added the paper flowers, as I photocopied a section of my dress I designed and machine embroidered over it. The sample includes photos of my family and the rolled lace strips add to the vintage style.

New floral top
I recently brought this floral top from Mango in Tenerife. I love it because the pattern is really nice and the bright florals on the black background makes them stand out. I decided to wear it over the top of my grey maxi dress and added a gold belt at the waist.
Recently I have really been into looking at Pinterest as it has some interesting ideas for textiles aswell as outfit ideas and quotes. I have been using it as part of my textiles project by researching fashion designers, this includes Elie Saab, Givenchy and Valentino. This has enabled me to find up close photos of the dresses which highlight the detail and backstage pictures from the designer's catwalk shows. The collections I have used in my project use very light colours which highlight a sense of nostalgia. I particularly like Elie Saab's Spring/Summer 2012 and 2013 collections as he use a variety of pastel colours, embellishment and flower petals on his work. Valentino's S/S 2012 and 2013 collections use a lot of white aswell as nostalgic style prints. Givenchy's Autumn/Winter 2010-11 collection use lots of lace in a variety of colours including beige and white aswell as the use of frigning in the form of feathers and fur.

18th birthday cupcakes
In my spare time I love to bake as it is therapeutic and relaxes me. For my friend's 18th birthday I made some cupcakes to take to get party. The cupcakes were butterfly cakes with vanilla buttercream and edible wafer flowers.
Nostalgia development sample
This is one of my development samples which uses black and white photos taken by my Grandad. I really like it because some of the photos have been printed onto book paper and newspaper. This adds detail to the sample and makes it more interesting to look at.

Nostalgia A2 Textiles Project
I decided to base my project on Nostalgia including old photos and vintage style fabrics. I researched artists using this style and created samples in their style. I am now on to the development part of my project, I have decided to create a family tree. I researched it on ancestry.co.uk and I have found out so much about my family past. It's so interesting to find out about them and look at personal records including birth certificates. I am thinking about creating a wall hanging for my final piece including all my family photos which will also be a keepsake.

Elie Saab
I am really inspired by Elie Saab's Haute Couture collections, I love how he has used lace, crystals and flowers on his dresses to create a vintage style look. His A/W 13-14 collection uses a range of colour palettes from dark greens to pastel pinks. Elie is one of my favourite fashion designers and has inspired me throughout my school and college textile projects.
