Finished Textiles Final Piece

I have finally finished my final piece for my A2 Textiles project called Nostalgia. I decided to create a wall hanging with a variety of samples including photos from my family in the past. I went back to the 20th century of my family history by creating a family tree on www.ancestry.co.uk. It was really interesting to learn about my family past and to discover people I never knew existed! My final piece incorporates both textile techniques inspired by Maria Walker, Lisa Kokin, Natasha Kerr, Clare Hillerby and Becky Adams which all use old photographs and handwriting in their work and some incorporating vintage fabrics. I also added in fashion techniques including lace embroidery and fringing inspired by Elie Saab, Valentino and Givenchy. The hanger part of my hanging was inspired by a textile book I found in the library called Rediscovered Treasures and  I made the roses using a YouTube video. I love my final piece as it is also a keepsake which shows my family history.

Ted Baker S/S14 collection

I recently received an email inviting me to watch the launch of the new Ted Baker spring/summer 2014 collection. I love it! The collection encompasses a variety of colours from bright pinks, yellows and oranges to pastel pinks, blues and yellows. Ted based this collection on sweets and ice cream,  lollies made in bright colours and ice cream in light and pastel colours. His collection is in a  variety of lengths and styles, from long floaty maxi dresses to short fitted dresses. Floral prints are also used on this collection on dresses, trousers and also bags. I particularly like how Ted has matched the colour of the dress to a handbag as it looks simplistic but still stunning. In some cases he has contrasted the bag with the colour of the dress to make it look different. I also love the S/S14 men's collection as it includes fitted suits in checks to pastel and bright coloured chinos and printed shirts. To view the catwalk show please click on the link below.

NYE Outfit

I love my outfit that I wore last night for New Years Eve, my playsuit is from Warehouse. It is really simple but looks elegant and I like how it is black as I will be able to wear it again and again. My shoes are from Dorothy Perkins which I bought for my prom two years ago. My fingernails are black and two fingers have a peacock colour polish which is Essie nail varnish and my toes are a gold glitter colour which is from NYC makeup range.
